Building a Future!
Builders set up shop (in less than a week!) in Rangiora – while raising money for a good cause.
Building commenced on Smith & Sons new showroom at 688 Lineside Road, Rangiora (opposite the Rangiora McDonalds). Smith & Sons building teams from around the South Island are joining together to complete the project in less than a week.
The new building’s piles and sub-flooring went down on the Monday June 10th, with the bulk of the building work completed in just a few days – and stepped up a gear on Friday and Saturday June 14-15th.
The highly organised building schedule saw the framing go up on Friday and the roof erected on Saturday, made possible with the muscle of a large team of builders from most of the South Island’s Smith & Sons franchises.
As the building team work away on the site, ‘Mr Smith’ the Smith & Sons mascot and friends will be collecting donations for the Child Cancer Foundation.
Once the 60m2 building is complete, it will be home to the North Canterbury Smith & Sons franchise, housing offices, showroom and design centre and offering customers a complete service under one roof. The building is designed to be fully relocatable
The company’s owner Gerry Thomson has been building in the region for over 30 years operating out of his Oxford home-office and is looking forward to the move.
“It’ll be great to be a little more accessible for our Rangiora based customers” says Gerry Thomson “we’re experiencing significant growth in our business and our new Design Centre will help us to better meet the needs of our customers, they will be able to pop in anytime they are passing with questions that they may have. ”
The North Canterbury company currently employs 15 staff, including four apprentices and is looking at hiring more qualified carpenters to add to the team.
