Complete Home Makeover Including Extension
Welcome home! Our clients came to us as they realised their 90s-built home had never achieved code of compliance. They also felt the layout of the home was dated and didn’t work for their lifestyle. We moved through the DPC process with the home owners and ended up with a design that was far more modern and had everything they wanted & needed. Our first site meeting with these particular clients consisted of them bringing a lego model showing how they wanted the layout to end up, how cool is that!
The new layout included extending the kitchen area slightly to give them a larger kitchen, knocking out a few existing walls so they could have an open-plan family space with a separate formal living room. These two spaces are divided by a one-of-a-kind barn door to represent the country living. A new fireplace was installed in the dining room to give the clients not only a heating option but also for that cosy feeling you get from a fire. Timber-look tiles for the flooring also give warmth to this section of the home.
We updated the main bathroom to a dramatic monochromatic style. The bold black details of the fittings contrast nicely against the natural tones of the floor and full height wall tiles. The timber feature on the vanity softens the striking room but maintains the drama of the monochrome colour scheme. The master bedroom received a new walk-in-wardrobe that is every woman’s dream; this was designed and installed by Kitchen Inspirations. A new larger ensuite was created for the master bedroom by combining the existing ensuite and walk-in-wardrobe. The new ensuite is also monochromatic in design like the main bathroom but with the added bonus of a double-basin vanity and a large shower with twin shower heads.
All bedrooms were updated with new carpet and a fresh coat of paint. Black hardware was added throughout the entire house and all joinery was replaced with new double-glazed aluminium joinery in the colour Matt Ironsand. The kitchen and scullery were custom designed by Kitchen Inspirations. The stunning kitchen has sleek black cabinetry with timber look accents, an engineered stone top, an island bench for additional counter space and breakfast bar at the end, finished off with a matte black subway tile splashback. The scullery is tucked away as a workable area where the client can create all the mess that comes with hosting and hide it away until they are ready to deal with it. The appliances chosen by the clients include a double wall oven and a wine fridge, making it an entertainer's paradise.
Externally, the house was clad with abodo timber to provide an attractive contrast to the existing brick. A wrap-around deck, built from composite decking, flows from the open plan living with three, separate Louvretec roofs to provide outdoor entertaining options. A large outdoor fireplace was also installed together with a hot tub which looks out to the beautiful Hunua Ranges – these perfectly finish the main outdoor area.
The end result? The homeowners are in love with their home again AND they have code of compliance!
