Lighter, Brighter and Bigger Kitchen – Ashburton
This 1930s bungalow in Rakaia, just north of Ashburton, was looking very dated and felt too dark and cramped. The owners wanted to open up the kitchen space and create a welcoming, modern space to enjoy.
By knocking down the central dividing wall which joined with the hallway, more space was available to create a longer kitchen, where new full height storage cabinetry was installed and a large fridge. The existing pantry had a small external window, so when the pantry was removed this window was made bigger, resulting in lots of natural light now available from two kitchen windows.
The new kitchen area flows into the dining area, forming an open plan living space which is more suited to today's lifestyle.
