Uber Modern Box Addition – Christchurch Port Hills
The owners of this home in Spreydon, Christchurch loved the location but wanted more space and a more modern home. Rather than move, they decided to extend by building out into the section. After talking with the team at Smith & Sons Port Hills about concepts and ideas they decided to go ahead with replacing part of the house with an uber modern addition, with powder coated aluminium cladding, building up and out from the orginal brick home.
Smith & Sons Port Hills managed the design and consent process, engaging their architect to develop the design and submitting the plans to council for consent approval. The new addition housed a kitchen, laundry, butlers pantry, dining area, plus lounge downstairs leading via stacked sliding doors outside to a new deck space built from Purple Heart timber. The upper level, accessed by oak overlay floor stairway, contains a master bedroom with ensuite and large walk in wardrobe, plus new office space. In addition to the extension, the owners also opted for a new garage with large workshop space.
Before construction could begin, part of the existing single home required demolition of brickwork, roofing and all foundations. Included in the demolition was also a sunroom, deck and pergola. Moulding the old with the new, the build project involved creating seemless spaces between the existing home and extension. The original part of the house was also renovated, with a new roof and double glazed windows, the home was also re-plumbed and re-wired with solar water heating added.
The owners were delighted with their new addition which transformed their home and lifestyle.
